I have passed the UK citizenship test! I knew all about the Queen, the Olympics and poppies! I know my Stonehenge from my Cleopatra's needle. With a litlle bit of history and a love of the Royals I was in. I can stay!
I am not convinced that this is the best method. Maybe it would be more
advisable to draw up a warning list for future immigrants, something
along the lines of 'Have you really thought this through?'
They should be told about manners, the p's and q's of polite refusals or
insincere invitations, about the acceptable decibel levels of
conversation. There should also be a mention of children and their undesired presence, about the Establishment and its influence on Everything That
Moves. More about how the ex-Empire had inspired All Things
Good, from kettles to religious tolerance. Perhaps a brief mention of
the fact that London is still considered by us to be the centre of the world.
That would be more efficient than zealous border guards armed with quizzes. Try it.
